Common Requirements

Requirements that every applicant must meet

  1. Applicant should be present in person.
  2. Should bring the national identity card or a valid passport which include the national identity card number. Police report on lost Identity card or Receipt certified by grama niladhari of applying for new identity card will not accepted.
  3. Foreign applicant should bring their valid passport.(The visa must have a validity period exceeding 12 months.)
  4. Photographs are not required as the relevant photographs will be taken during the process.

Obtaining a new driving license for light vehicles

  1. Applicant should complete 17 years of age.
  2. Bring your spectacles if you are using to see long distance.
  3. If you are on long term treatment for any disease (e.g. diabetics, hypertension etc.) take the medicine at prescribed times.

To obtain a medical fitness report to courts

  1. Should bring the latter issued by courts or traffic police.
  2. The referral latter should include the following information
    1. Name in full
    2. National identity card number
    3. Case number
    4. Next date of hearing
  3. If the client is produced from the jail, he should come with the detention.

Obtaining a new driving license for heavy vehicles

  1. Should be a holder of a license of light vehicles (only B and B1 vehicle classes) for a minimum of 2 years prior to the date of application.
  2. Should bring the Driving License.
  3. A minimum height of 5 feet is required to obtain a license for Motor bus and motor lorry category.
  4. Applicant should be 20 years of age to get a learner permit for a heavy vehicle driving license.
  5. Applicant should complete 21 years in age to get a heavy vehicle driving license

For renewal of driving license

  1. Should bring the old driving license
  2. If the driving license lost, bring a police report obtain within six month.

To obtain a route permit

  1. Should bring the heavy vehicle driving license.

Necessary investigations will be done by the institute.

NTMI does not keep copies of medical certificate within the organization. If the certificate is lost, the client will have to pay again and face a medical examination again to obtain a new certificate.
